Leicester is a vibrant city with a young and energetic atmosphere brimming with great shops, restaurants, bars, museums and entertainment. Since Roman times, Leicester has been welcoming people from all over the world. Over 40% of its people are now from ethnic minority backgrounds and that’s not just the Asian community - they are from dozens of other countries including substantial and active Somali and Caribbean communities. Within a few years that number will be 50%, the only place in the UK where that will be the case.
As a result, Leicester is a truly international city of culture & cultures and probably the best example in the UK of a city where it WORKS. The City and surrounding area is well known for the tolerance and harmony which exists between its communities. It’s a unique mix which makes life there very special indeed. Its diversity is obvious in every aspect of City life – shopping, eating out, arts and entertainment, leisure, events & festivals, including the largest Diwali festival outside India and the Caribbean Carnival.
It is also a sporting capital – football, rugby, cricket, horse racing and motor sport. All of this is surrounded by beautiful countryside.
